Swedish victory in international IMAGINE final

This year’s IMAGINE final (international UKM) was hosted in Brussels on 1-2 July, and the winner of the 2012 IMAGINE competition is the folk du

o Algot from Sweden. Below is a report from Jeunesses Musicales in Belgium. We wish to congratulate the winners as well as our own Jan Ivar Trio from the norwegian UKM festival.

Algot from Sweden have won the international finals of Imagine at the Botanique in Brussels, Belgium! They competed against 7 top up-and-coming young European groups to take the grand prize of a Imagine tour in 2012 plus the recording of an album with a local label.

Algot blend modern and traditional Swedish folk music from the Northern region of the country together with their own twists and tunes to create a sound that is moving, both emotionally and on the dance floor! It was plain to see how this Swedish duo captured the hearts of the public and the attention of the international jury after seeing them work the Orangerie into a frenzy after they were handed the award.

The two Belgian winners Lunar Rays and Ziggy were both awarded a trip to perform at Imagine Romania with Ziggy also taking Friday night’s public prize of a live performance on the local Belgian radio station FM Brussel.

Our past Imagine Belgium winners Opmoc, Melting Time, Madame’s Tout Le Monde, Gepetto and the Whales and the Compact Disc Dummies all rocked the house, showcasing the kind of talent that is developed through the Imagine program. Belgian veterans Lucy Lucy, DJ LeFtO and Stethoscope Steve not only delivered great performances but inspired many of the contestants too!
