JMI AGA 2009

The JMI AGA (Annual General Assembly) 2009 dubbed: Music for Change is a key event in the world of youth and music, a meeting point for cultural managers from over 50 countries, and stage for discussions on future programs and collaborations that will further enable, enrich and entertain the 5 million young people they serve annually. The 64th JMI AGA will consider the role of music in a time of global economic crisis, exploring its role as a driver for youth empowerment, cultural and community development and social change.

No JMI AGA is an AGA without music and this year shall be no exception! For one week the city of Kranj, Slovenia (approximately 20 km north-west of Ljubljana) will overflow with a variety of musical cascades, showcasing JMI network talent as well as introducing international guests to local artists and culture.

The amazing music program starts on 30 June with the outstanding Trio Volk Folk, followed by an International Imagine Festival Showcase on the 1st of July bringing up and coming young groups form Croatia, Belgium, and of course Slovenia to show what makes them local Imagine Festival winners. If you are in Kranj on the 3rd of July you will have the opportunity to see Zimbabwean sensation Mookomba, winners of the biggest music competition in Southern Africa, the Music Crossroads Interregional Festival. The following and final day the entire Ethno Histria will converge on the city for a night of musical mischief for all AGA delegates and anyone who loves music.

The first two concerts will be held at the Pungert Café and the others at Glavni trg. Concerts will be held in conjunction with the Festival Carniola, which promises to delight audiences with a bouquet of music from around the world.

You won’t want to miss any of these remarkable performances so make sure you are there each and everyday from around 20:00 and get involved in the spirit of Making a Difference through Music!

The JMI AGA enjoys the patronage of the The European Commision, The Belgian Science Policy, the National Lottery, The City of Kranj and the Kranj Tourism Board, iLab, and Artscenter.
