Auditions open for the World Youth Choir


The World Youth Choir (WYC) is one of the most interesting musical and intercultural experiences offered to young musicians, made up of about 100 young choral singers aged 17 to 26 representing more than 40 different nationalities.

The next session will be held between 8th July and 1st August 2009, and will include a rehearsal camp in Gent (Belgium) and tour of Belgium, France, Germany and The Netherlands!!

The World Youth Choir experience is an unforgettable one – a great opportunity to make connections with other singers from around the world, to study and create magnificent music under the leadership of top conductors. Start preparing your audition today!

The session repertoire will include two programs:

  • An Academic program based on early 20th Century choral music conducted by Mr. Johan Duijck (Belgium), conductor of the Flemish Radio Choir, the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields Chorus London and the Gents Madrigaalkoor (Gent, Belgium), professor of piano at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Gent (Belgium) and Professor of Choral Conducting at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona.

  • A contrasting program based on contemporary and folk-based choral music from Latin America conducted by Ms. Ana Maria Raga (Venezuela), graduate in choral conducting, recipient of several national and international prizes as a pianist, composer, choral singer and choir director. Founder of the Venezuelan children’s choir Coral Mater Salvatoris, and Aequalis (international tours in the United States, Europe, Mexico and Asia).

The summer 2009 session will be held in Gent Belgium thanks to the collaboration with Koor & Stem, Vlaams Federatie van Jonge Koren, the City of Gent, the Province of Oost Vlaanderen and the Vlaamse Gemeenschap.

The World Youth Choir is a project run under the official patronage of Jeunsses Musicales International, the International Federation for Choral Music and Europa Cantat.
